ID waivers under cross examination.
Cliff's:
In Dover, PA parents are suing a public school board for wanting to teach Intelligent Design as science. The plaintiffs argue ID is essentially creationism with a new name and that religious beliefs have no place in a science classroom. This has set up a modern day Scopes Monkey Trial.
Michael Behe, author of Darwin's Black Box, was called as an expert witness by the Defense to explain how ID is science. (Behe offers modern rehashings of William Paley's 200+ year old natural theology arguments; all of his claims have either been refuted or are downright intellectually dishonest.)
Behe acknowledged under cross examination that ID does not fit the National Academy of Sciences' definition of a scientific theory, and instead proposed his own definition of science which is so broad it would include astrology.
My take:
Maybe you don't accept evolution as a fact, or the modern synthesis of evolutionary biology as one of the most well-supported contemporary scientific theories that is the backbone of all modern biological research.
But do you honestly think astrology should be taught alongside astronomy? Alchemy alongside chemistry?
