Asteroid passing near earth - within the orbit of weather satellites?

It was just on the news. Kind of scary, if you really think about it. Some asteroid is going to make a near-earth pass soon.

It won't be at all close enough to the Earth to be "scary", but definitely close enough to be interesting to astronomers.
