Security is not paramount but very important, so help me decide if this is overkill.

On the simple end of the scale is a Netgear Prosafe, but I think they might need more than that. I was lookign at a Sonicwall TZ 170 25 Node for simplicity when I remembered that Astaro sold appliances.

Sonicwall and Checkpoint offer far more powerful devices, and I have always been impressed by Astaro.

<--used to run it at home.

The network is a 15 user single-subnet domain. Rather sparse, i know, but they need a firewall to protect them from their DSL. A home-made or oem box with an OS was an option before (Smoothwall corporate or Astaro) but it looks liek that will cost too much.
Obviously they will not need the 80/26 wan and vpn wan speeds, but the system is somewhat system to maintain.

Out of those choices, I'd have to go with a low end nokia appliance. They're easy, powerful, and a lot of fun. I set one up on a DSL line about a year ago for a remote office.

I use the sonicwall TZ 170.
with the new firmware, I'm liking it even more, they introduced new features like the internal cpu monitor, conversations and connections for each single node connected etc...etc..

for a single subnet, 15-ppl firewall, I would go with this.
I think it costs like $400-$500......they even have 24x7 support (ofcourse, you get routed to India)
I'm actually about to buy another TZ170 to act as a hot spare.
hope this helps.
