ASSUS Laptop Quality?

I am really considering an ASUS F6V-A1 laptop from Newegg, but have a couple of concerns.

First, I have never had or known anyone personally with an ASUS laptop. How is the build quality? Do they last as long as the major brands like Dell and Lenovo? Is their warranty service any good?

How is Newegg with laptop purchases? I have read all of their TOS and warranty information, and nothing strikes me as out of the ordinary, but I would appreciate some additional info if anyone has some.

Thanks.

does newegg's horrible policy on dead pixels also apply to laptops? from what i recall you need something like 8 before they will replace it

A friend of mine just got a similar Asus laptop. I haven't spent much time with the laptop, but it looks to be of decent quality. I'd compare the build quality to HP's consumer line (Pavilion). He constantly complains about an abysmal battery life, however.

Another friend of mine has one of the original Asus Eee computers. The battery life is also terrible on that one.

As Clandren said, you might want to double check on Newegg's dead pixel policy regarding laptops.

Asus has their own warranty on their laptops. If you have dead pixels, you can complain to them (even if there is only one): http://usa.asus.com/products.a...=5&share=icon/carefree

I've had an Asus W3J for over 2 years now. Still runs fabulously, whether in Windows or in Ubuntu. The case has no scuffs on it and the hardware is still running fine. The battery is only at 76% of its original capacity, but that happens to all batteries over time. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Asus again if they had a laptop with the specs I was looking for.

After a little more research I think that I am now going to go with a Lenovo u330. Specs aren't quite as high, but I think it will be a better machine overall.
