associating subtitles with a dvd?

I bought Huo Yuan Jia (Fearless) while in Taiwan, and while it has subtitles in Malay, Chinese, and Thai, they didn't find it necessary to have English subtitles. While this is fine for me, my Cantonese roommate wants to watch the movie also. Aside from translating every line for her, is there any way I can associate subtitles with a specific DVD. I'm used to using VobSub for my DIVX movies, but I've never had to associate a sub file with a DVD (where I can't rename the files). Any suggestions on how to do this?
