Assistance with subnetting

What is the subnet for the following address 172.16.12.0 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0?

There must be 14 host and the 5th subnet must be used. I believe I have figured the answer I just want to make sure it is correct.

I have the 5th subnet as being 172.16.12.64 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.240 a broadcast of 172.16.12.79 and a range of 172.16.12.65 - 172.16.12.78.


If I did not get the correct answer could assistance please be provided as to how I can correct the issue.

I did not ask you to do my homework. I have figured out. If i wanted someone to do my homework I would not have included the answer. I just need to know if I did it correctly, and if not how I can fix it.

Something is not correct in the way the question has been asked. Originally the question says:

"What is the subnet for the following address 172.16.12.0 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0?"

The subnet mask is given in the question as "255.255.255.0".

Later the OP says:

"with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.240"

It can't be both at the same time! I'm guessing that the "255.255.255.0" should not have been part of the question at all. Don't know where that came from...

The best way to figure these things out is in binary and then convert back.

Anyhow your answer looks fine assuming the 255.255.255.0 thing was an error. Don't depend on internet answers unless you are going to have the internet available at test time...
