Ok here are the specs of the machine i have just built although some may be irrelevant.

1.2gb athalon
256mb DDR
Gigabyte GA7DX
inno3d gforce 2 pro 64mb
western digi 7200 20gb
300w PSU
coolermaster fan for socket a up to 1.4 gb
arctic silver compound for CPU

Here is the problem, machine went together like a dream no hitches whatsoever with the windows 98se and drivers install. Everything seemed fine with the system until i tried to run 3d mark (or any 3d software) it then proceeds to run it very well for about 10 seconds and then drops to desktop every time (for varying amounts of time but no more than 1 minute). Im pretty sure its not heat related as the CPU sits at a stable 55 degrees and i have tried installing a prophet 2 gts and i get the same trouble. Im starting to think that it may be caused by windows somewhere along the line but cannot see where from as it is a clean system. Interestingly enough i ran the DX diagnostic tests and it would not display the bouncing ball full screen.

Any ideas guys?

Did you install the VIA 4-in-1 drivers MINUS the AGP drivers, then install the AMD AGP drivers?

The drivers ussually will come with your motherboard. But the VIA 4-in-1 drivers will also try and install it's AGP drivers, you don't want those AGP drivers, you want the AMD AGP miniport drivers. The most current VIA drivers can be found at www.viatech.com, the most current AMD AGP miniport drivers can be found at www.amd.com.
