Assimliating a CITY for TA. Need help.

You all are going to think I am crazy, but I am! I'm going to create some MINI teams under TA that will be for the city I live in--Rockford, IL. I can do this for both RC5 and OGR, and whatever else TA needs some help in.

They key to the whole idea is to have a website my fellow townspeople can go to for info, intro, download of clients, and all setup tips. I already made the first step for that -- www.RockfordDC.com is registered.

Rockford is the second largest city in IL (Chicago would be the largest :)). The area contains about 200,000 people. I could get the word out about the website and hope to have a decent response.

Hopefully, within other projects, DCnet and others may support miniteams with members. I do think it adds a new dimension and makes the competition more fun.

The Scoop: I have no idea what kind of response I will get from people, but I'm sure it COULD be very good.
AnandTech is still the greatest place for Forums of the kind out there. That is why I am doing this.
So, since I'm stuck here (Rockford) for a while, I will do the best I can to recruit systems for cracking. I'l pull as many strings as I can reach.
By "help" this is what I am talking about:
  • If it is possible, is there anyone who could help with hosting the site?
  • Also, this may be asking a little less, I might need help with design of the site. Sure, I can do some, but I'm not overly experienced and my knowledge of HTLM, etc. is very limited.
  • I am open for all ideas and comments. Just post a reply, I'l be here for a while.

I use AOL (ya, I know is it suck) for Email and IM with friends. I have a good/decent cable connection though. ICQ me if you want Email address.

That's it for the thread, I'm stickin around, so join in the conversation. Lemme know what you think.

MY GOD What an IDEA!

Good one tho' I sure hope you get this baby flyin' ;) Are there many "freaks" (like us!:p) there? By that I mean people who'd totally get a kick out of this and start building crack racks like Russ and stuff... hehe that'd be cool a whole city of RC5/OGR MANIACS:D

I'm really not that good with any of the stuff you want help with... but for a project like this I'd be willing to lend a hand... I've got some experience doing html and stylesheets, but I'm sadly lacking when it comes to scripting and stuff like that... Lots of people here who are excellent at all of that tho' let me know what I can do and we'll see!

TwoFace, thanks a lot for the support. Yeah, there would be some freaks that would do all they could to crack a load. I'm one of 'em :D. I'm ready to get this rolling ASAP. I'm trying to find a way to do this whole MINI team setup. So that individuals/institutions can have some personal stats. And then of course the MINI Team Rockford stat on dcnet and the TA PP server. Any more ideas?

The idea of this is to target Community Team Effort. (WHile halping our TA in the process.) I'l work my but off to get support in Rockford. It'll happen. Any ideas for the stats? I wish we could have DCnet. make a client with support for a miniteam I.D. Teams would use this to identify people and put out apropriate stats.

Since you've got a nice fat cable why don't you run a pproxy and do stats for the locals there (that is if you've got a machine stable enough)? The way people do miniteams right now is to all flush to the same email account... isn't it possible for the users to see their personal stats using the hosts working for feature? anyone? Well seems you're ready to get this ball rollin' so if there is anything I can do let me know...

I have my P3 700 runnig very stable. I use it for games and stuff though. For always on connections, we could use IP address for personal stats. But many people still have dialup w/o static IP. NO way around that w/o support from DCnet i think.

YEAH! My #100 Message :D

Cool paulson is now in on this as well :) Any news on the miniTeAms yet? ... If I understand this correctly it would just have to be implemented on the pproxies wouldn't it? That way everyone still uses their own e-mail and can get their personal stats and the pproxies just takes all the info from this and that email and add them together for a miniTeAm.. Am I right or far out? Anyone? Shouldn't this be pretty easy to implement?!?

MiniTeam support with the client is definitely needed. The client should still tag 1 main email address. This is the Miniteams email. Next it should have a Miniteam member i.d. # or email to tag. I.D. # might be better so people don't get mixed up. We could start another thread strictly on the need for Miniteam implementation. Then send an email to DCnet with the link.

Just like I said. I.P. address would be a way to do it. There are too many problems with that though. People with static I.P would have to know they're IP. Many people don't have static I.P. (Dialups mostly). This also presents a problem with people who have herds. Herds aren't all in one spot!! Many IPs used, dialups.

So, as we see, IP address would never work, yet it would be handy for PProxies.

Let's convince DCnet!!

In response to your first question, I can put you in contact with a friend of mine that you could host your site for a reasonable rate. Contact the webmaster @ http://www.dotcomproductions.com.

The idea sounds great! I wish you the best of luck with it.

Thanks for the support. I'm not sure right now, but I'l have to get some Hosting and then a starter site for my domain name. If I do the site I'd be whipping out FrontPage, lol, so maybe I could even use help with the site.

I'l start working on that started site, and people can get an idea of where I'm headed. Later on, WHEN Dnet gets some client-site miniteam support, this site will need some serious work. ASP and all of that. Right now though, I'd like some more ideas, and just get the word out. A City will be crackin for TA!!

Bump^^:p

I am working on a really generic, crappy starter website for the above mentioned project. Once I get it running on something, I will gladly except all the help I can get with web graphics, HTML, and everything else. This site is just the main idea site to show you guys what's going on. I am very excited because I know this thing is gonna fly. Thanks everyone.

Alright, I'm about ready to stick the joke-of-a-site out there. Can I host it from my P3 700 running Win2kPro? I don't need to set up the dns servers or anything yet to use the domain. I just want it to be out there so I can get some help producing it. Thanks a lot guys
