I want to try to assign an IP address to this
TCP/IP-> Linksys FA310tx

I'm on a DSL connection. Is there an IP address number and subnet mask number that I can use that won't interfere with anythintg?

Is that network card connected to your DSL modem or an internal network? If it's connected to the modem, is your ISP assigning you a static or dynamic IP? If it's a static IP you should assign it the IP your ISP gives you, along with all the other configurations. You should not put anything if it's a dynamic IP.

If the NIC is connected to your internal network, you should assign 192.168.0.x (where x is any number) for IP, and 255.255.255.0 for submask for your internal network to work.

My network card is attached to an external DSL modem. I believe that I have a dynamic IP address. But I read that assigning any number to the IP for the TCP\IP->my network card protocol won't matter.

Is your DSL provider using PPPoE? I know pacbell is switching everyone to that.

If so, then yes you can assign an IP number. The PPPoE software that loads will override whatever is there.

If no PPPoE (ie you are getting your IP assigned through standard DHCP) then you need to leave it as "Let server assign IP address".

If you have PPPoE you should acutally assign some IP address, just because it will boot faster if you do so (since it wont be waiting for a DHCP address that will never come).
