I sold a Pinnacle Pctv Pro tv tuner card to a bidder. The bidder replys back first accusing me that the card is not even what I described it as and the remote I gave with it sucks. I reply back and show him some proof the card is what it was described as and say you got everything as described and as pictured in the auction (7 pictures, high res). He then replys back and tells me that the card dosen't work in his "dimension 3000" and wants to return it. The card is working, I am not a hardware vendor, I am an individual. Is it my responsibility to take the tuner card back because he can't seem to get a perfectly working card to work on his particular system? He even complained that I gave him crappy software, I gave him the latest version of the card's software from the manufacturer's website.... what more could you want?

Anyways should I take the card back, or express that its not my responsibility to because I provided the card as described?

Update 1:

I went ahead and told him that compadability issues are not my problem, I am an individual seller and not a freaking compusa.

He complained to paypal and this is what he says:
Reason for Dispute:
Not as Described
Buyer's Comments:
I received the card and some burnt software. The card is not recognized by Windows XP and the "software" crashes every time I try to run it. My computer has gone to blue warning screen errors repeatedly as I try unsuccessfully to get the card to work. I've been up till 3 in the morning for several nights trying to get the thing to work. I offered to pay shipping costs both ways, but the seller says he's not "obligated" to give me a refund for a non-functional product. He says it would violate his "duties as a seller". He suggested I sell the card to someone else, which I will not do because I AM AN HONEST PERSON AND WILL NOT STEAL MONEY FROM ANYONE IN EXCHANGE FOR JUNK.

To my knowledge the card was working just fine, I had been using it upto the shipment date. I pulled it out and put it in anti-static packaging and mailed it to the guy. If the card dosen't work on his computer its not my problem? But what do I explain to paypal?

not ur fault. Just because he doesnt know how to use it doesnt mean its your fault, if the card is working perfectly as you say. Thats just my experience from selling stuff on ebay and here. Know what your buying.

I hate it when people don't like something and want to return it. Tell the asshat you're not Costco and to shove the remote up his corn hole. In all my auctions, I show a list of what they'll get, and a high res pic of all the contents of the auction. Absolutely no fricking refund.

No refund if you provided him with the exact item you promised to provide him with.

That was my first thought, no refund.

But this is where ebays biggest flaw comes in, feedback. If I dont give him a refund I can expect automatic negative feedback...even if I am right in the case. I suppose I can leave him the same, and then suggest we both do a mutual retraction.

Any thoughts?

Grow some balls man. Tell him if he doesn't like what he bought, resell it on eBay, 'cause you don't do refunds. If the jackass gives you a negative, slam him back w/ a negative. There are always assholes on eBay, there's no way around it.

chiwawa - this guy is going to give you a negative PERIOD. Look at what a tool he's been so far. Tell him to shove it, get it working. As a seller you can ask him to provide you with specific details as to what's not working, etc, see if you can help him out.

Tell him to shove it, he got what he wanted, then changed his mind. You're not a store, you don't have a policy saying you have to take it back.

Chiwawa626,

can you post a link to auction? I'm not calling you a liar or anything, just wnat to get as much info as possible.

But from what you have provided, it sounds like you have done nothing wrong. My gut instinct tells me what it has told everyone else already, that this guy a) just didn't like the card, b) is too stupid to get it working, or c) is just a complete idiot with a mix of both A and B.

You can easily show paypal that he received everything described.

As for the negative, dont even worry about that now, worry about making damn sure paypal doesn't refund the money to the dude. There are ways to get negative feedback removed. I have done so in the past. Some nonpaying jerkoff left me a neg and I was able to remove it through ebay's website (don't exactly remember how, but you can search like 'removing feedback' or something)

Anyways, good luck.

Don't worry about the negative, you as the seller, can add a comment to his explaining you sold him the item described, not tech support.

I think it's funny how people here will say "F-him, not your problem...etc" on an ebay sale, but if the same thing were to happen in the FS/FT forum, the same ppl would be saying "refund, it's the right thing to do"

yes, quite odd

man that paypal report REALLY makes you look bad. Lesson learned to put all sales are final. If i were you i would just forward to paypal all the emails he sent you so they know this guy didnt know wtf he was buying. I hate when that happens. If you give him refund, you lose shipping money, and ebay fees and paypal fees if you have premium account. Its hell i know... GL to ya.

Even if you put all sales are final, if they file a chargeback, they will still win and get their money back from Paypal.
