assembling a work station

Hi,
I am new to this forum. Need advise for assembling a work station which enables me to do 3 D animation. Which would be the best mother board option, CPU, graphic card, sound card etc. I have a budger of $1700 - $ 2000. I would be using this machine to churn out broad cast quality
videio animation, and at times if possible to use it as a video edit set up also.

You should post this in the general hardware forum, you'll get a lot more responses/opinions there, this forum is mainly for troubleshooting problems. That said, I'll toss a little advice out there:

- Dual core AMD or Intel CPU (must have for this)
- 2 or 4GB of RAM
- 512MB ATI or nVidia graphics card
- Couple of 500GB SATA hard drives in RAID 0
- Backup (non-RAID) SATA drive, 500GB

Good luck getting it in your budget. It takes serious power to do what you ask!

You're definately going to want dual-core, no question about it. I suggest getting one of the newer Opterons. For a video card, you should look into workstation cards, like the Nvidia Quadro and ATI FireGL. There are also some cards out there from Volari which might interest you. Storage should be a focus area for you. You're going to want 2 or more high-capacity SATA drives (300GB or more, I say) in RAID 0.
