After downloading the free ACIV game that came with like rudeguys new video card, he gets ACBFSP.exe has stopped working. Anyone else run into this? Anyone know of a cause/fix?

Thanks

Any further details? Specs on the computer, video card driver version? Is AC4 completely updated through Uplay? Without knowing that, it could be basically anything.

Brand new build. MSI760OC card with updated drivers. I5 4750k. Intel SSD with 2 1 TB drives in pool mode in Windows 8.1
Updated AC4 through uplay.
Uninstalled just the game then reinstalled. Still same.
Uninstalled uplay and reinstalled. Still same.

Sorry I haven't replied, I've been sick all weekend. Have you tried lowering all the graphics settings to the lowest level? Maybe something like PhysX or HBAO is causing an issue. Beyond that, you should probably look on the official UbiSoft forums. Lots of people have reported issues, there may be a fix there that will help you.

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/810031-AC4BFSP-exe-has-stopped-working/page41?

Huge thread about issue. There doesn't seem to be a solution unfortunately, and a lot of people just bashing Ubisoft. Might be worth keeping an eye on though in case somebody does come across a solution

Thanks. I had also found that thread and couldn't find a solution, just complaining.

I'm just going to buy it for him on steam. I don't have time to dink with it and the Lil guy really wants to play it.

Why would you buy it again if there's issues. From what I'm reading it doesn't seem to be a u-play issue, and even if it is... even the steam version uses u-play.

Yea...I saw that and it killed that plan. I just gave him $50 to buy whatever game he wanted. Sucks because this was his Christmas present and he was geeked to play ACIV. It's a small issue but I felt bad.

I had to install on the primary drive to get it to work, had the same issue with other Ubi games in the past too. And for the last Ghost Recon I had to create a a guest account in windows to get it to run and that actually worked.

You might be on to something. .. The primary is a 240 gig SSD so I installed everything to the pool.

Thanks!

Does this happen at startup?

Try deleting the save game (if there is one) and starting the game.

Try renaming the file called "DataPC_patch.forge" to anything else (just put a 2 at the end or something) and try running the game.

There is also a "fix" where you can delete some certain files and then "verify" the game in UPlay. It will download the files again and you might be able to play the game... I can't find what the files are right now, but it will give you a starting point.

This fixed it.

Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!

You are welcome, glad it worked. For some reason, latest Ubi games require to be installed on the primary drive, I learned that the hard way with FC3 when I had it default to my Steam library on the external drive. At first I thought it only didn't work on external drives but it just won't run on anything other than primary drive.

In case people reading this thread know anyone having issues with COD Ghosts, this workaround also works for that game but the issue is more frustrating in COD Ghosts: A friend bought that game and while it will start when it's installed to his default Steam library on external drive, it wouldn't let him get past 1st checkpoint til he moved the game to primary drive.

Hum. I should try farcry 3 and see if I have the same issue; I use mount point instead of drive letter so I'm interested in seeing if farcry 3 will start on an alternative drive that is a mount point :)
-
will report back (maybe) in a day or so.
-
My primary drive is an ssd and it does not have enough free space for large games like farcry 3.

It is rather shockingly short-sighted in 2013 that a game company would release a game for a PC and not be aware that multiple hard drives might be a thing.

Well farcry 3 runs fine on my machine (it is installed on the 'steam' drive and not the ssd boot disk. But I have to say just starting the game was a pia with uplay - to upgrade to the delux you don't upgrade in uplay you upgrade in the game (ok that sort of make sense) but the uplay interface suggests that you can upgrade it there. Worse (though minor i guess since I can type fine and dandy) there is no way to paste the keys into uplay (or farcry 3). Anyways I don't think I will buy anymore uplay games for a while - kind of a pity had hope that might and magic legacy would be good but uplay is just a pia that adds no value.

I remember trying pretty much everything I could think of until I moved it to the primary and then it ran without issues. This was FC3 and every subsequent Ubi game failed til I moved them. I use a external drive via USB but people with internal storage have the same issue. Curious why it works for you. I have a huge library of games on the external drive but only Ubi games insist on the primary drive, for me atleast.

As I said above I use a mount point and not another drive letter.... I can't prove that is why it works for me but that is possibly one different in my configuaration.

Yea.. that would have been #167 on my list of things to try to fix it. Well below giving up and buying a game that works.

Thanks again guys. You made Lil rudeguy a happy camper.

It's a very good game, once it decides to run lol.
To get the most out of it, tell him to focus on the side quests once he progresses far enough to unlock the diving bell and to get elite upgrades and Templar armor.

Well IB, while you're waiting for your C2 you could loan me the PC133SDRAM to experiment with :). Ah the joys of bachelorhood ;).

Thanks for digging up the BIOS flash procedure. Anand should just keep it in permanent storage somewhere on the site. At least one person a week asks for it.

I stay out of it.

Desert Combat is as far as I go into gaming.

I probably should have mentioned this before, but I had an issue just recently with Uplay because of my multiple HDDs. It had to have been something that got screwed up with an update because I never had a problem, but I was getting "hard drive doesn't have enough space to install" errors even though there was space when installing AC4. I looked in the settings and see that my default install drive was changed to my system drive, which was not where I had left it. Even after changing the drive in settings it would still give me an error. I uninstalled U-play and reinstalled it on the game drive and all was well.

It most definitely did not have this issue earlier in the year. I have always had it installed on my C drive and it would install games to the E drive without a fuss, but something changed in a recent update. I'm not sure why they did it or if it's just broken and they didn't mean to change it.
