Assassin's Creed & DX10

The upcomming game Assassin's Creed looks pretty spectacular. (If you're unfamiliar with it, check some videos here - especially the 'X06 Onstage Demonstration' which has some actual gameplay footage.)

Now, I'm planning on building a new rig before the end of the year and even though the game won't be out until Q2 2007 I'm wondering how the hardware I get today presumably will be able to run this game. (I'm assuming that the game will be playable on both DX9 and DX10.)

I'm planning on a Core 2 Duo E6600 + 2 Gigs of RAM + a GeForce 7900 GTX.

Obviously, there are no official system requirements as of yet, so much of this will be speculation or - hopefully - educated guesses.

I'm specifically wondering whether I should wait for nVidia's next gen DX10 cards, even though I'm not sure Vista will be a good choice for a gaming OS within it's first half year of release.

Do anyone have any ideas about what advantages I will get from running such a game on a DX10 setup? (I'm thinking besides the higher framerates that come with a faster card, what are the graphical reasons to wait for a DX10 card?)

It'll offer faster and more efficient performance, isn't that reason enough to wait another month?

I have no problem waiting a month, but as I understand it, the first two G80 parts will be quite a bit more expensive (at their introduction) than a 7900 GTX?

And I guess they'll be more powerhungry too?

Also, even though not much is known about the G80s cooling solutions, I must say that I'm pretty intrigued by the one used on the 7900 GTX, which should be pretty low-noise.

no reason whatsoever to wait for a DX10 card.
By that I take it that you don't believe there will be much exclusive DX10 content comming out during the next year or so?

edit: And/or there won't be much to miss graphics-wise playing on a DX9 setup?

instead of a 7900GTX, step down (or sideways, whatever) to a 7950GT or a 7900GTO. save money for the 8800GTX or 8800GTS!

if you only upgrade every 3 years, it might be a good idea to get the new cards . . . more 'future proof' than the current cards.

If you upgrade yearly as many of us enthusiasts do, get what is best bang for buck now - irregardless of DX10 . . . in a year or two you will get a DX10 card that will play then current titles

MOST new games are DX9 . . . with 'features' added for DX10 gamers . . . most of those games will be patched into DX10 titles in a year or two.

DX9 is gonna be mainstream for at least another 2-3 years . . . and for at least one year of that time DX10 will give no real advantages [except bragging rights]

7900 GTO is an excellent performer for the money.....it's basically an underclocked GTX. Just OC it back up if you want.

And the cooler on it is as quiet as a Zalman. No joke. No aftermarket cooling needed. Just plug the card in, install the drivers and away you go.
