I had an i5-4690k and decided to go with an i7-4790k cpu. The system is less than a year old so I opted to do this rather than upgrade.
I cleaned up my InWin901 case and gtx 980 ti and got the new cpu seated. I was careful when doing so and made sure the orientation was correct before installing my Noctua low profile air cooler. Everything was looking great then I tried to power on. This mobo has a CMOS clear button. I didn't realize the best way to clear CMOS was with the power off. I had accidentally plugged the display port for my Dell s2716DG into the onboard gfx port. Then when nothing posted on screen I cleared CMOS with the power on. I have read this can lead to problems.
I have tried many trouble shooting steps. I tried clearing CMOS the proper way with the PC turned off. I have tried removing the GPU and plugging in HDMI to onboard HDMI out and ran the HDMI to another monitor. I have checked all power wires from psu and at terminal point on mobo. I even put the i5 cpu that was working great a few hours ago back into the socket and threw the stock fan in. Nothing seems to get any results. The only thing that has happened since I started this venture to now is the fans will spin up at start, very quickly after that a restart happens. When the restart happens the fans run for a few minutes and then a restart happens again. Nothing ever shows up on screen.
A solution seems far out of reach at this point but would be most appreciated, though I am losing all hope considering the circumstances.
