TLDR: My wireless mouse does not work on some of my USB3 ports when my Z87 build is under load. Why?

---

On my Z87E-ITX everytime there is CPU activity 4 of my 6 USB3 ports have really bad 2.4GHz interference that effects my wireless mouse dongle. Is this normal for the Intel Z87 platform?

The interference is so bad that if Prime95 is running I cannot move my mouse at all. Yet if I use the tiny USB extension stick that came with my wireless dongle everything works great (even with Prime).

Note: The 2.4GHz noise issues when using a caused by using high throughput USB3 is pretty well documented but in my case the only thing that is running off the USB3 bus is my mouse.

It's a known issue that 2.4Ghz wireless is negatively affected by USB3.0. Best answer is to use an extension cable, to move the wireless dongle further from the ports.

I completely agree, I just can't figure out why there is interference only when the system is under load.

Maybe I'll do a experiment with some copper EMI foil and see what components are 'leaking'. Who knows maybe I can get away with just grounding the shell on the USB ports that have issues.
