I watercool, I do it so my machine is nearly silent (and overclocked). My previous Asus X79 Pro gave up and I decided to replace it with a board with more power phases and generally some more features. Unfortunately the extreme series of boards all come with a little fan over the Southbridge.
The reviews I read didn't mention the volume of the fan being a problem, but boy is it! It spins up on any hard drive usage and it runs at very high speeds, its the sort of noise you get from a server when its running at 4000 rpm or more. Its insanely loud.
I have messed around with the profile a little bit and set the temperature the fan kicks in at 60C and that certainly makes it less common, but when I am working it regularly spins up as I use the drives and irritates me greatly.
What do you think is a reasonable temperature setting to have to minimise how often this fan starts? Does anyone know of some that makes waterblocks for these boards so I can silence it completely?
