ASRock quality now-a-days? ASRock 870 Extreme3

I remember back in the day most people stayed away from ASRock for various reasons. Lately, it seems their quality is going up as well as their boards. I'm looking at an AMD 870 board for my X6 and the ASRock seems to be the best offering right now between ASUS and MSI.

I would prefer the Gigabyte 870 but I have no idea when that will be released.

So, is it 'safe' to go for an ASRock board or stick to ASUS/MSI (The ASUS 870 has just a 4-pin AUX power which is making my double-think getting the it - or is the 4pin vs 8pin not really a big deal?).

AsRock is Asus's budget line. Which is to say, cheaper Asus stuff. Which is to say even cheaper than Asus. Which is to say, get EVGA.

I've used 3 AsRock boards now and loved every one of them. I haven't had any issues. I run stock clocks with no O/C.

Statistically, I think you have a higher chance of getting a bad board from Asrock, compared to Asus. I RMA'd an Asrock X58 Extreme last month that just would not POST with 3 sticks of RAM. Replaced it with an Asus P6X58D and everything worked perfectly. I find a good indicator to be the customer review ratings on Newegg.

Asrock is the red-headed stepchild of Asus. That said, I was running a nice 775-DualVSTA board for a little while, no issues.

"Motherboard, we master it!" :D

Asrock seems to focus on odd Features rarely found in other mobos. My Dual SATA2 ran rock solid 24/7 for 4.5 years until I retired it. However, upon removing it from the Case I noticed 4 bulging Caps, so it was nearing the end. Probably would have died already if I Overclocked.

My Nephew bought the same Mobo and it only lasted a few months.

Personally I wouldn't buy Asrock for Quality, but for the unique features if they are useful for you.

My experience is cheap boards are just as reliable as expensive ones as long as you far away from the REALLY low-end stuff like PC Chips. We aren't living in the 1990s anymore.

Love my Asrock. While I don't push it very hard very often, when I do it sits right up and goes.
