ASRock P67 Pro3 with 3570k

Hello there, AnandTech and pleased to make my very first post here. I hope I'm following all the forums' guidelines.

1. I wondered if you could please tell me if I'll be able to successfully overclock i5 3570k on P67 Pro3 with CPU cooler Macho HR-02. I've heard there are default OC values when overclocking with 2500k on P67 Pro3. Is that the case with 3570k?

2. Is OCZ ZS 650W 135MM PSU enough for this combo?

3. I haven't decided on the case yet: is Cooler Master Elite K350 a decent case? Is it noisy or rather quiet?

My current build is as follows:
i5 3570k
ASRock p67 Pro3
Thermalright Macho HR-02
PowerColor Radeon HD 7950 3GB
8gb Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600Mhz (1x8)
Samsung SSD 840 520/130 120GB

1. Yes, if you have updated bios with ivy bridge microcode, you will be able to overclock your 3570K same way you would on Z77 board, Pro3 is a solid P67 board.
2. Your PSU is enough powerful for this setup.
3. Can't comment on case, no experience with it.

Thanks a reply, Sheep221. Basically I just download 3.10 BIOS and ASRock Extreme Tuning Utility from here:

and I'm good to go, correct?

Yes, or you can OC in Bios directly without AXTU.
You are also able to use Intel extreme tuning utility with similar effect to AXTU.

If you dont have IB bios you may need a SB cpu to update the bios.
That mb has shortage of VRM and mosfets which cause the rest of the vrms to run hot without any heatinks suggest you use few fans to cool down the power area around the cpu.

Does it mean I won't be able to update my Bios to Ivy with just an Ivy processor or is it uncertain?

By heatsink do you mean a CPU cooler? Like I wrote: I'm thinking of getting Thermalright Macho HR-02.

When Ib first came there were bios problems with most boards.
Thats why I got Extreme 4 to avoid any problems.
Do a bios search.

The Pro3 is the cheapest built board I have ever owned I had to put two noisy black Deltas on the mosfet area of the mb before pushing it.
I was very shocked that Pro3 survived the ibt at 49k-51k and I didnt believe it would last to much longer I took off the WC parts and it became the wifes pc.

If you have the mb check the # on the bios chip then match it up at askrock website to know if it is a sb or ib bios.

OK, I've confirmed that Sandy Bridge CPU is indeed needed to perform Bios update to IB on p67 Pro3 so that's that. John, what do you think of Z77 Pro3? Extreme4 is out of my budget I'm afraid. Can I OC to 4.5 with Z77 Pro3 / i5 3570k?

The Z77 Pro3 cheap but should oc to 4500k no problems.
Fair starting board for mild oc.
The lower end mb may run warmer around the vrm cpu area etc so you add some extra fans.

Looks decent, but I wouldn't trust it to be quiet. However, most any known quiet case is going to cost around $100, not $40. For $40, it looks like a decent case, and cheap CM cases typically have very good build quality for the money.

My Z-68 Pro 3 does not have a sink to the rear of the cpu were the vrms are there is a sink on the right side.
Again my mb only has the bare minimum nunbers of VRMs which puts a stress on the board.
When you use a water block it reduces the air that came from your cpu hsf and things get hotter without a sink.

Z68 pro3 yes, it has only one heatsink over CPU socket

I should have got a better board but I wasnt working at the time.
On the P67 Pro3 it looks like they doubled the vrms for better power.
