Does anybody know if the K8S8X board based on the SIS 755 chipset has support for reducing the speed on the HSF when the processor is running in reduced speed mode with Cool n Quiet? Also, is there any reason that I shouldn't get this board? I am tempted since I heard the SiS chipset was fast and this board is cheap.

Thanks,

J

I did a quick Google, and it doesn't look like it does, although that's a CPU feature, so it should work either way. You could also use SpeedFan to slow the fans down, or a controller (Newegg has a Zalman for something like $7).

Fan speed reduction would have to be controlled through the board BIOS's ACPI implementation of "thermal zones". So although the _power_ saving is a CPU internal feature, the _noise_ reduction is up to the mainboard.

Do you know of any motherboards which support this feature?
