Hi,

I recently purchased a ASrock k7upgrade-880. At some point in the future, I plan to get the daughter board and upgrade to a Athlon 64 754 socket. What I would like to do is to upgrade to the mobile version of the A64 instead of the desktop version. They both use the same socket 754. The only issue would be if the motherboard can detect the processor. Has anyone tried this?

I did email Asrock, they told me that it did not and the cpu list does not list any mobile processor. On other other hand, a few people have noted that the board detects mobile Athlon even though they are not on the supported list.

I wouldn't gamble on it. The mobiles are at a price premium, and clocked at 200 hertz less than the equivalent regular 64. Only board that I know of that works with mobiles is the asus model. One place had the athlon 64 2800 mobile for about $100 recently, but they sold out.
