Hi,

I would like to build a NAS Server. I plan to go with an AMD Richland "low voltage". Hopefully it will be available in June 2013. Can you please advise me if this CPU would be compatible with this motherboard ASRock FM2A85X Extreme4-M

Actually If you know a good quality motherboard to go with an AMD Richland low-power CPU (preferably microATX format), I am opened to any advice.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The A4-5000 is Kabini & an SoC with A68M integrated chipset, the A4-4000 however is Richland & goes alongside current FM2 sockets presumably with a BIOS update ~

Thank you very much sir for the correction. I made a terrible mistake on the CPU reference. Indeed A4-5000 is not a Richland CPU. I have modified the original post to avoid the confusion.

So any FM2 motherboard just need a BIOS update to run an AMD Richland CPU?

The A4-4000 you suggested is 65W. I am looking for a low power around 25W max. I dont need a lot of power for this NAS Server. I could even go with a Kabini CPU but their SoC only has 2 Sata outputs. I need at least 4 SATAs. Do you think that it is possible to buy in retails an AMD CPU of the A-Series LV or ULV APU for use in a Desktop setup (on a normal FM2 mobo)?

Again, with the original post you've listed mobile Richland parts, as in for notebooks only, but with that in mind I think you should be able to get 35W or possibly even lower TDP models as & when these desktop chips are officially released, unlike the previous paper launch.

So the short answer is ~ yes you should be able to get low power Richland APU & nearly all of'em will work on the FM2 socket mobos, the caveat being that a BIOS update is necessary, but you'll have to wait for such models to hit retail first.
