Hi, my friend is looking for a new Z97 motherboard. Which is a better board, the ASROCK Extreme 6 or Gigabyte Gaming 7? There's only about a $10 difference in price. Thanks.

The z68 extreme 6 was well received; The z77 extreme 6 was boo'ed (weak build/poor vrm); the z87 extreme 6 was well received (better than gigabyte); no clue about the z97. I woudl check newegg user reviews (not just score but read the reviews) to get some insight to folks issues or non issues with both boards.

I currently have a z68 extreme 4; and no real complaints but will likely upgrade to the z87 extreme 6 in a few months. For me I cannot consider the z97 extreme 6 because it lacks a pci slot and I need at least one pci slot.

I have had the Z87 Extreme 6 for about a year (got it on release of Haswell), and it's held up great. The board has plenty of features, and the price is right.

An upshot to using a Gigabyte board (depending on the model), is that they are very Hackintosh friendly, if you're into that sorta thing.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going with the Gigabyte Gaming 7.
