Hey people,

I have an ASRock Conroe 1333-1394 LGA 775 mobo. On the box it's written that it's compatible with all 1333/1066/800/533 CPUs except for quad cores (it's also compatible with wolfdale 45nm CPUs).

The thing is I'm working a lot on 3D modeling and rendering and can greatly benefit from a quad core, so could I flash the bios of the mobo to make it support quads as well (if there isn't any hardware particularities to prevent this)? If yes, are there any risks either for the CPU or the mobo (or for any other hardware) in doing this?

Thanks for your answers!

No. It's a limitation of the chipset. Flashing the bios won't allow quads to work. I'd go for the e8400 (which requires bios version 1.40) or start looking at other boards. I read the directions for flashing the bios while in windows on the asrock website; I had no problems. But you can end up with a dead board, as the old bios is erased before the newer version is loaded. A bunch of dots appear on the screen and change color as the flash procedes. Just be patient and let it finish.
