Curious if it overclocks well. If you have it can you post your results? Also the limitations on it. I want to overclock my 165 to 2.5ghz minimum with ocz pc 4000 gold ram. Would this motherboard be able to do that with a artic 64 pro? Also what is the max voltage it can do?

Yes they do overclock well, just a few MHz shy of what a DFI board can do.

The opteron 165 runs at 1.8GHz. Pusing it to 2.5GHz is a bit extreme. Many AMD Chips max out 400MHz higher than stock speeds. There are a few "Golden Samples" that can hit 500-600MHz but they are the exception rather than the norm. I find it silly when people go out and spend an extra $500-1000 (on Water and Phasechange cooling) to overclock a budget opteron 165 to 2.5GHz when they could have saved money by buying the faster chip to begin with.

$350 Opteron 165
$900 Phanse Change CPU Cooler
------
1250 total cost.

An AMD FX60 Dual Core 2.6GHz is only $1,015 at this moment.

Add in the extra $100-150 higher price of a DFI or ASUS Deluxe ($200 retail or 150 More than a budget board) motherboard and you have spent more money and have less perfornamce than if you had bought a better CPU.

Even if you choose water cooling you will end up forking over $200-350+ that you could spend on a faster chip in the first place. It really is dumb.

Just like those ricers who spend 70k on a CIVIC that is not anywhere nears as nimble or as fast as a 50k Vette or 35k Ariel Atom.

The point is don't spend more than $35 trying to get this to perform like an FX 60 or 4800+. If you max out at 2.2GHz sit back and be happy about it. Dont waste money that you could have spend on a 4400+ or 4800+.

lol wasnt planning on getting watercooled. IF you look around there are tons of people hitting 2.5ghz-2.8ghz on air cooling with this chip.

I simply wanted to know if i would see a noticable performance drop in o/c speeds if i went with the asrock board.

How would this memory pair up with it?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227219

i thought asrock only supports up to 2.7v with memory how would this affect the memory since it operates at 2.8v

I believe you missed my point. Dont be a Ricer who spends 100k on a $5,000 used car.

Save your $70 buy this RAM* and use the $70 to buy a faster processor.

*The RAM in the link is usualy 99% identical to the more expensive stuff.

Actually the dual core Opteron 165s have regularly been hitting 2.5 and way above on air. It's almost a guarantee to hit 2.5 even on the stock heatsink.
