I am putting a ASrock K8upgrade mobo in my moms computer because the only thing wrong with her pc heath wise is the motherboard. This particular model of motherboard has the ability to put a add-on card for both a 939 board and a AM2 board, I was curious if anyone knew where I could purchase this for perhaps a future upgrade?

Superbiz has the asrock riser card. The part number is am2cpubrd. Ewiz>motherboards>accessories. The price is $29.95. For a few dollars more, you can get a low end board or newegg open box am2+ board. You'll need ddr2 memory anyway, so you might as well get a full board.

+1

S939 boards have nearly dried up, except for Ebay. This is the only one I could find selling new:

ASUS A8S-X SIS 756+965L (bulk)

ASUS Product Page

It has an SIS chipset and supports PCI Express cards, not AGP like the NF3.

Here is a new AM2+ setup you might consider:

Foxconn A74MX-K AMD 740G - $40.00 shipped AR

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz - $40.00 shipped

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800 - $20.00 shipped AR

Use the integrated AMD 740G graphics = $100.00 total (after rebates). Should the IGP prove inadequate for some reason, toss in something like this for another $20.00 (AR):

ASUS Radeon HD 3450 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16

Its for Moms! Give her all new (albiet inexpensive) tech.

I am not trying to set up a new computer plus that would meaning buying a new mobo, a new processor, new ram, and a new video card where as with this I am just buying a new mobo with the option to upgrade the processor later

My point is that you might as well skip the riser card. You're using ddr right now; when you upgrade to anything else, you'll need ddr2 or ddr3, so a new board will give you more options for not much more than the card. Am2 is ddr2 only.

I understand, I only wanted the riser because it gives my mom the option of upgrading later if she wants, for a low cost, unless the riser, the cpu and ram would add up to a new board, ram, video card and cpu. The most complicated she uses her computer for is editing photos for her scrapbooking projects. I keep her PC in good health but alas old age has gotten the best of her motherboard being that it is near 5 years old.
