The riser card is a daughter board that carried an AM2 socket and DIMM slots for DDR2.
Yes, they do exist and I've seen one in action, although I don't have one for my own Asrock 939 mobo. I doubt Asrock made many, as there was little immediate demand for them (AMD took their time about bringing out 939-beating CPUs for AM2, and there was a wide choice of regular AM2 boards for upgraders).
