ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 with AMD X2 3800+

I was considering the ABIT AN8 ultra (nforce4) to pair with an X2 3800+

But then I found the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 (ULi) for 1/3 less money ($70 vs $110) and I thought why pay extra when I have no plan to OC?

It's a 939 socket board but the spec on the ASrock doesn't say X2.

Found a web review that said the asrock did well vs. an epox nforce4 ultra, but they were testing a single core amd.

a review on newegg was negative about running it with an X2 (low 3dmarks)

has anyone done a comparison?

thanks

btw, since it has both pci-e and agp, can I use a pci-e card and an old agp and run TRUE dual monitor that way? I think that'd be a cool way to surg web and run game at the same time.

According to the reviews, you can run both AGP and PCI-E cards at the same time for dual-monitor support ... see this review for example.

I don't know about running an x2 on this board though. It seems odd to me to pay a premium for a top-of-the-line dual-core CPU and then run it on a value board. But maybe that's just me.

Yes it can run the X2 cpu's out of the box 🙂 It is aninexpensive mobo but it is great 🙂 I currently have one with a winchester 3000 running at 2.47 gigs at default 🙂 and I have another on its way 🙂

This board has been working fine with my X2 3800+. See the AT review of this board for performance comparisons with other S939 boards. I do not have a single core to test, but I can't see why the comparative dual core performance would not mirror the single core tests.
