ASROCK 939Dual-SATA2 issues

I have been having a problem with my brand-spanking new setup. I had to replace nearly everything when my power supply fried my motherboard, video card, and 3 hard drives a few weeks go. I had to get almost everything new, and I got an ASrock 939 and AMD 3500+. The video card was under warranty, so I just got it fixed; it's a BFG Tech 5900XT OC AGP card. OK, now that that's out of the way. The computer randomly restarts and BSODs, what i'm doing nonwithstanding. It's longest uptime has been about 2 hours. Also, it has issues running 3DMark05; it will display black screen when it starts. I thought it was a video card problem, but then I installed Doom3 which runs just fine at 1024x768. Then I looked at memory, which were the only things to survive the dying twitches of my vengeful power supply. I ran the latest version of memtest86, and it went about 20 hours without a single error. My memory is Patriot PC3200, 2x 512mb running in dual channel. I read up about the 1t memory problem with this board, and set it manually to 2t. I also changed the burst length from 4 to 2, which helped someone else with a similar problem. Finally, I heard that the ULI AGP drivers are picky, so I un-installed my forceware drivers, went in to safe mode, and ran driver cleaner pro, which removed all trace of my nvidia drivers. Then I reinstalled the ULI AGP drivers, and restarted to normal mode and installed the graphics drivers again. I'm out of ideas.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this problem? I would love the help. I'm stuck.

Mike

I'm sure you will find the question insulting, but since you didn't mention it in your post, I thought I'd ask... did you re-install XP after the hardware changes? I assume so because of the fried hard drives, but just thought I'd ask...

haha yes, i did 😉. Those hard drives are well and truly dead, never to be run again, so windows had to have a fresh install. I bought a new 160 gig drive for now, adding more when i can RMA my WD 200 gig.

ok, so i thought this was pretty interesting. Maybe pointed to a motherboard issues, tell me what you think.

I wasn't doing anything to intensive, just playing some music on iTunes and browsing in Firefox. Just as I alt-tabbed from itunes to firefox, the computer stopped responding with the alt tab box up on the screen still. OK, i thought, the thing froze again, reboot time. Then I realized that the music was still going. I waited till the song ended, and it played another song, then another, just as though nothing was wrong. Then after about 10 minutes, I came back to the computer and the screen saver was on, merrily bouncing around the Windows XP logo. Weirder still, the music still played, and then soon after the screen saver was turned off by an incoming instant message. I guess this means that the PS/2 ports randomly shut off just as i was holding down the alt key, after pressing tab? only solution i can come up with; just keyboard and mouse died. Not bad, huh?
