Well i got an asrock 939 dual motherboard and the build went well...played a bit getting the agp vid card to work, just had to install agp driver from mobo disc before SP2 updated card driver....

Installed fresh copy of windows xp pro onto 80GB sata hdd...all went well, and everythign worked, but i couldnt shut it down...checked device manager, computer MPS uniprocessor pc, i knew that wasnt right...so i reinstalled a fresh copy of windows this time hitting F5 in setup and choosing advanced configuration and power interface (acpi) pc and all was well again in windows and everything worked well, quite fast too...says the right thing in device manager, still cant shut down...So i updated the bios to 1.80, all went well there.

Windows logs off, saves settings and shuts down, but computer doesnt turn off...have a 530W thermaltake psu, starting pulling cables 1 by 1 while it was on to narrow down a dead short...only time it went off is when main atx mobo connector was pulled...so i tried an old 300W psu, same exact thing....i notice by even holding in the power button, it wont shut down, but like i said i pulled every cable 1 by 1....

I've looked all thru the bios settings and such, nothing changes anything, i checked everything connected to that motherboard a couple times over...So you all think i have a messed up motherboard or something else? Thank You.

If you mean the standoffs, there are 10 holes on the motherboard and i put in the appropriate 10 spots inside my case and screwed em all in...i actually thought that could be the issue but then i thought, wait a min, i put all the standoffs in properly...Maybe its another part of the mobo grounding out? at the I/O panel or somewhere?

Just that when i 1st installed windows and it was setup as a MPS uniprocessor PC, it was the first time in years, that i saw the message "it is now safe to turn off your computer" when u shut down....and after reinstall, it doesnt say that message but still doesnt shut down...

Incidentally, the power led, hdd led reset sw and power sw all seem to be working properly...

I've reseated the motherboard and still the same issue with shutdown...

Can anyone tell me why i can't even shut it off by holding the power button in? I can only shut it off by switching it off at the psu....

I also tried OCW's beta 8 bios this morning, still no go, its obviously a hardware issue, i might just have to send it back.
