I currently have 2 512 sticks of pc3200 memory in slots 1&2 running dual channel. If I put more memory in slots 3&4....Do they need to be the same brand as slot 1&2 to assure dual channel?

I sure hope someone can answer this in the affirmative, having actually installed two identical sticks in 3 and 4. I'm thinking of doing it, but I'm a coward and want to hear from someone who has actually done it.

I agree though that it SHOULD work.

Has anyone put two sticks in slots 3 & 4 which were not identical to the sticks in 1 & 2 and still have dual channel?

Yes, I'm running exactly that configuration on my 939Dual-SATA2. First two RAM slots are 2x512MB Corsair PC3200 of some type from a few years back (pretty fast stuff though) and this February I added 2x512MB of Corsair ValueSelect in the other two slots. Same brand, but quite a bit different timings/etc. between the two pairs (the second pair is slower; so of course I'm limited in overclocks/timings by that pair). No problems at all with dual channel here.

Damn good response. I'm going to get 2 x 512 of the exact same RAM as are already in slots 1 and 2.

I had a 939 dual SATA2 with 2 X 512 value select in 1 & 2 and 2 X 256 value select in 3 & 4. the sticks in 1 & 2 are about 2 years older than those in 3 & 4. Dual channel mode woked fine. You will not be able to use 1T however.

Excellent. Now I need to find sticks that I can afford. RAM is DAM expensive lately.

Also, If I put one stick in slot 3 will that mess up dual channel that my 1 & 2 are running.
