Has anyone ran MBM or other diagnostic software to see what Northbridge is installed on these latest Asrock 775Dual-VSTA boards. I have heard some saying that they are now shipping with the VIA PT880 Ultra chip instead of the Pro chip. Has anybody pulled there heatsink to take a look. I have looked at the upcoming QuadCore board from Asrock to be released to the States around March 1st...and it looks like this Northbridge is the only difference.
If it's true that they are now shipping with the Ultra chip...I wonder if you could just upgrade the BIOS from the QUAD series...If I knew that they were now shipping with the updated chip I would purchase one today.

ANYBODY ???????? :)

Thanks for the input...I have been lurking around many forums and some have said that after pulling their heatsink....that an Ultra chip is on the board. Maybe they are shipping the new chips out now.....hoping to here from others who have just bought their boards in the last couple of weeks....

My friend just bought one. He is getting it tomorrow (Wednesday). I will have him look and report back here.

I just got one of these boards last week. I pulled the heatsink and the chip is labeled "Ultra", despite CPU-Z saying Pro. I think Pro and Ultra are identical chipsets, the only difference being Ultra has been tested and verified at 1066mhz?

Hmmm...that's interesting... There aren't to many folks who will pull their NB Sink off and actually look.....so that really has my interest peaked....Yeah, It sounds like the Pro version PT880 is just Overclocked and the Ultra PT880 is actually certified to run at the faster FSB speed...probably the better chip stock...

I guess the next question would be....if the new MB's are shipping with the ULTRA chip is if the BIOS that is on the ASROCK website for the QUAD board would work or not?? Guess I'm just wondering if this board would be capable of supporting the QUAD chip in the future???

I was thinking of waiting until 1st of March to order the 4CoreDual-VSTA...but when I review the two boards at the ASROCK website it makes me scratch my head....identicle from what I can see...and they have the PT880 Chipset Pro/Ultra listed after the 775Dual-VSTA....wonder if that is to show that they may have either chip on the board??

I guess that they both support the 1066FSB regardless and I should just grab one....I have been itching to grab one with the E4300....but the prices are already dropping....if I wait for a week or two the E4300 will probably be down around the expected $163 it was suppose to release at in the first place...

Keeping on posting your results.....

And by the sounds of it CPUZ will not be able to tell the difference of the chip...
