ASRock 775Dual-VSTA alternative

in one of the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA reviews, on the comments web page one of the reviewers says that there will be more alternatives to that board...

When will they be available?? what brands?¿? price range??? performance expectations??

im gonna jump in the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA wagon so dont want to get the board and then see that a better one has come out!!!

There's an ASRock I865 chipset board that supports Conroe + AGP + DDR, for about the same price range as the 775Dual-VSTA.
Not sure whether Gigabyte, Epox or other brands of similar boards are available.

DDR/AGP boards:

Intel 865PE: ASRock ConRoe865PE
Intel 865G: ASRock 775i65G (PCB version R2.00), Available Now $45.99; ASUS P5PE-VM Available Now, $53.29
VIA PT880 Ultra: ASRock 775Dual-VSTA, Available Now, $55.99
VIA P4M800 Pro (single channel DDR only): ECS P4M800PRO-M (V2.0), Available Now, $48.99

"Available Now" means that it is in stock at NewEgg. Please look at

Core 2 Duo (Conroe & Merom) Motherboard List - With a Short Guide to Chipsets

It includes direct links to manufacturer sites and NewEgg.

One mother of a list!

Hi Guys,

I am also interested in conroe 865pe and gathered info on core 2 duo motherboards that use DDRI on
http://users.telenet.be/oiges/

This single page also has the core 2 duo motherboard list and some url to tools that might be of use for overclocking.

A review will have to give real data for making a judgement on performance (stock and overclocking) of the conroe865pe. (I have for the moment no knowledge of other mb for core 2 duo and 4 x DDR I)

Some guys in other forums

really doubt the 865 chipset capabilities and even the results from anandtech. But hard figures I have not yet seen.

Lets bring on this review. 🙂

Be aware that the VIA PT880pro is the _only_ chipset for Intel processors that implements AGP properly, with full functionality and 1.5V signalling. EVERYTHING else is pretend-AGP done via PCI.

I wish they would come out with one with an uncompromised PCIe slot and DDR1 support.

If its the 775dual-vsta you are talking about it supports ddr1.

What about the VIA PT880 Ultra ?

What about the VIA PT880 Ultra ?

The 775Dual-VSTA is based on VIA's older PT880 Ultra chipset, a variation of the PT880 Pro with 1066FSB support and modified by ASRock to support Intel's new Core 2 processors. However, the 775Dual-VSTA is a more interesting motherboard when compared to the AM2V890-VSTA because of the hybrid nature of the PT880 Ultra chipset.

What about the VIA PT880 Ultra ?

The "Ultra" is just an updated "Pro", the only added thing being FSB1066 support.
