hi - first post YAY :)
im getting an asrock 775Dual VSTA MB in a few weeks, maybe a month or more. idk

i will be getting a e6300 probably
e4300 if they are out then or will be shortly after.

i hear the ASROCK board is bad for oc'in. can bearly reach 300fsb?
the e4300 will have a 200mhz FSB with 9x Multipler

so if the fsb is raised to 266 it will be e6600 speeds.
the ASROCK board can handle 266 so does that mean i will be able to oc the e4300 to 2.4ghz?

also using Samsung 667 2x512 RAM

I think 320 or so is possible with that mobo. E6400 at 2.5 is as fast as a X2 at 3.1 GHz, so a $50 mobo plus a $220 CPU is a pritty good deal.

I too can't wait to see the E4xx chips. I hope that they are a good upgrade for my E6300!

The dual vsta plus a E4x00 chip is what I'm going to do for a cheap, fast upgrade to my current Northwood setup.

Correct me if im wrong, but I cant see anyway of these new E4300's being cheap... Surely they arent gonna be under than £90-100 price tag (e6300 range)

I'll see if I can wait it out, but as soon as I can get this combo for <$200 I'm probably in.

Yep, 300FSB is around the max this board gets, give or take a few.

Yep, E4300 is a better choice than the 6300 for this motherboard because of the FSB limitation and the 9x multiplier.

This mobo should oc an E4300 faster than it could do to a 6300.
Can't beat that for the price, especially if you already have DDR memory, and even better if you want to keep your AGP card.

Price drop for E4300 will be coming next quarter as well as the Asrock Quad-VSTA (like above said). The Quad version may oc a bit better, and also has a better southbridge.

umm people are reporting e4300's w/ 340mhz fsb's on this board.

they are cpu pin modd volt modded on the vagp, vnb, and vdimm. but hey, they are orthos stable at 340!

thats 3ghz c2d's on the asrock duals!

Jared,
Please post where people with 4300's are getting 340FSB with this board and please can you give me the settings, whether it be in PM or a post here. I would appreciate it. I am sure others would too.

heres an excerpt from another forum on vsta/4300 overclocking and some results compared to an athlon 64. BTW my e4300 and asrock dual will be here on mon. !!!!!

Update,

Processor received and temporary assembled with the original fan.

First thoughts and elements:

-Better mount the intel fan outside the case as it is hard to clip and on a flat surface (table).
-For the MB AsRock 775DualVSTA, I had the bios 1.80 pre-installed and couldn't install WinXP until updated to Bios 2.10 :(
So if you fear bios update by dos disk, better buy the 4CORE DUAL-VSTA motherboard which is a more recent revision, you won't have this problem (verified in hardware forums).

I run on a temporary hard drive to see how it reacts;
- It doesn't heat (52°C full load both cores)
- Very reactive feeling
- Easy overclock from 200 (1800) to 267 (2404); still doesn't heat

More infos when available.

Well yes and no,

With that 1.80 bios stuff, I had problems with my windows partitions on my HDD so I do have a working SP2 on an empty disk but my WIndows boot partitions are quite messed up :(
BTW I never used the recover documents and parameters assistant from WInXP so if I can figure it out it could be a good occasion to learn
If not I guess starting from scratch is not a bad thing as I have transferred my main working partition From SP1 to SP2 and from a Athlon 2400 to 2800 to an AMD64 (754) in the 3 past years... but I need time for that and I don't have much ATM.
Wait and see.

Some tests made with the SP2 on the empty disk:
- Nuclearus went from 3500 for the AMD64
to 5100 for the C2D@1800
to 6700@2400 with some tunings
to 7200@2600
- SuperPi went from 39s for the AMD64
to 33s@1800 defaults settings and RAM @166
to 25s@2400 with Ram@200-1T-3.3.3.8
to 24s@2600
The Dual VSTA MOBO can have 2T and aggressive timings or 1T (with Ram voltage to High) and SPD timings, not both.
It also seems both settings give +- same results so, for overclocking, I go with 1T and SPD.
Working @ 2400 until all is settled and stable, 2600 is functional even if not stable tested, so it seems I will reach my goal :)

So thumbs up or thumbs down so far ?

I have been out all the week, coming back home late so I just toyed with the working SP2. I will have part of the week end to see if the mess is recoverable ...

@ Blue_MiSfit
They're $176 @ Newegg now They are now at 165? at my french internet reseller.

So far, I have made tests with a short divx trailer clip 1 pass encoding with Autogk, results to come soon.

@Pookie,The following may interest you :)
I re-made the tests with the avisynth script and made the MT working so if I don't have the record I should not be far :D

I will post results directly in the avisynth thread soon: /DONE/ http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120371&page=4

I have a E4300 in shipping. I payed $185 for it and a ECS P4M800 pro on ebay. I just got a ASRock 775Dual-VSTA refub from newegg for $30. I have it setup with a 530j 2x256 OCZ PC4000 and a x800gto AGP now. I going to do the Bsel mod for sure!
