was wondering because my PSU died and i dont have a spare ATX PSU to try out.

Yes... almost. The ATX PSU has to be normal in length, not long (ie, no dual fans in push/pull). Also, your optical drives need to be on the short side, such as Lite On or Sony.

Yeah, either get a regular ATX PSU and short drives (LiteOn or Sony) or a newer Dell PSU and standard length drives. I've got a Dell 300W PSU pulled from an SC420 installed along with an NEC3540 in my qpack and everything fits with about 1cm of spare room between the molex and the PSU. This little Dell PSU is pretty beefy, powers the burner, 2 SATA drives, 7800GT, and intel 630 without a hitch (for 3 months and counting anyways). The default 420W PSU from Aspire just sucked, 12V couldn't stay stable enough to power the video card. checkout the SFF channel over at hardforums for more ppl that had to ditch their default qpack psu.

You may even be able to get away with a full length optical drive if you use right angle molex connectors and have nice IDE connectors.

That's a good idea. I did a search and Jab-Tech seems to have these rare items (gives your DVDR +1 to random access and +8 to RPMs) for as low as 99¢ each. I've never purchased from the place.

Jab-Tech is a VG vender. I bought all black ends and would have bought 90degree Molex but they only come in several UV colors. The just moved from NY to OK, so there is no tax and they don't pad shipping.Email them to see if they will ship uninsured USPS as it would be very cheap. I just got a $9 wire stripper from them that is sweet.

You could have painted the UV ones black, or just used a marker on them. 😛
