Aspire board problem...

Alright I was given an Acer Aspire X1420G the other day for nothing, decided to install Windows 7 pro on it and install a Visiontek 4350 HD card on the board... needless to say that the board does not recognize the card at all. I can not get the the card to work for anything. I have updated all the drivers I have found for the system. Updated windows with all the current updates. Even installed the new Catalyst drivers and suite on the system and still nothing. Has anyone heard of a problem like this with this computer or have any helpful advice they can pass my way so that I can try to get this card to work in this system? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Or do you guys think that since I plan to build this system up to a good gaming rig I should replace the motherboard first thing? Do you guys have any suggestions on socket am3 motherboards that will last me a good year or so?

go into the bios and select the add-in card. there is usually a selection to tell the system which display to use first. You can usually disable the onboard video if you aren't going to use it.

Alright I went into the Bios and did not find anything pertaining to an add-in card. I found something about the on-board card being enabled but it was greyed out and would not let me select it. This is really starting to annoy me because I bought this card to upgrade this stupid system and now it does not want to work. Anymore advice?

tried to find a manual online but the only one I'm able to access from work is a generic user guide and doesn't have any specific info for your system.

that is here:
http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=3670

there does appear to be a fairly new bios available so you may try to update that.

that does have a x16 slot, doesn't it? the acer support pages don't have a whole lot of info on your system from what I can tell.

also, the psu looks to be a 220w one, that may be too low a wattage for adding in a video card.

That is the specs on the motherboard. I did update the bios last night. And the power supply has been upgraded as I took the computer guts out of that that stupid little case they give you and put it into my Antec case. The new power supply is either a 440 or 540 Thermaltake. I am at a complete loss for what is going on with this damn board. I have never had this much trouble in the past with upgrading a computer.

on my systems that have on board video, to find where display selection is:

advanced>chipset>graphics then select the order to enable the the displays.

not sure if acer is the same way but it should be similar.

on older systems there was a jumper that would disable the onboard display, but that should not apply to your board. it should be too new for that.

No such luck for me. I go into the bios and look in the advanced section and nothing pertaining to graphics, I have an Integrated Paraphernalia option and when I go into that there is an on-board graphics option that says Enabled, it is greyed out so I can not choose it and change it.

I am pretty much at the end of my rope with this generic POS motherboard. On the board though is an AMD Athlon II X4 645 Propus core cpu, is that worth getting a good overclocking motherboard or should I stick with a cheap but better replacement for the board that is in this machine at the moment? Do you have any suggestions on a good socket AM3 motherboard?

:: EDIT :: I apologize for the double post I am so irritated with this motherboard issue that I don't even realize that I am double posting.

have you tried that card in another system to make sure it works? it's not out of the realm of possibility that the 4350 is defective.

It very well might be the card, I remember having it in another system and it would work periodically. It would work until the system was turned off and then once restarted the card would stop working. I might have just purchased a defective card back in the day. There is nothing I can do about it now because the card was purchased like 6 months ago and I have just had it lying around. Is there another card that anyone would suggest that would be a huge upgrade from the Nvidia GeForce 6150SE Integrated graphics I have on this board without breaking the bank?

Also do you guys think that the integrated graphics would be able to handle a game like Fallout 3 for the time being until I get a new card? I remember running Fallout 3 on an older system with a AMD 64 Socket 939 and a GeForce 7600GT card at pretty decent frame rates. All input on this would be greatly appreciated.

that I'm not sure of. it may with the options set low, but the only way to find out is to try it.
