ASPI

I'm always hearing about this when it comes to CD burners and programs. Also, I've read that Adaptec EZ-CD Creator has its own ASPI which conflicts with many other programs like CloneCD and Nero Burning Rom.

1) What's ASPI?
2) Why does Adaptec programs conflicts w/ other programs?

1) ASPI stands for advanced SCSI programming interface. Adaptec oringinally developed this interface for SCSI devices to communicate with the host adapter, but it's now a commonly used interface for IDE devices as well.

2) Well, I have Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 Deluxe installed, as well as Nero 5. No conflicts so far with the APSI layer. People who complain of such conflicts probably don't have their software configured correctly. But the natural reaction is to blame Adaptec, of course. Now, Adaptec DirectCD DOES conflict with Nero, but that's mainly because of Nero's installer. There is a way to get the two to coexist, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
