XP Pro SP-1A, Abit KX7-333 mobo, two optical IDE drives, two IDE HDs (ata133 and ata100 respectively).

I'm trying to install the latest ASPI drivers but Audiocatalyst doesn't see it.

I have to install VIA's IDE Miniport in order to get ASPI functionality.

What's the deal here?

Is this a known problem?

Thx for the link, still no go :(

ASPICHK shows the ASPI layer is operational but CDRWin, Audiocatalyst, etc... don't have ASPI functionality.

Try reinstalling cdrwin & when the install asks to install Aspi drivers let it install it,this should fix cdrwin.

I have some older aspi drivers for win2k that you could install then upgrade to the latest from adaptec, sometimes this fixes it.

Let me know & i can email it to you. it's only 178kb zipped

edit, I emailed it to you.

using forceaspi, did you first dump your present aspi layer before installing the aspi from forceaspi?

That is how I have done it in the past, worked fine for me.

http://download.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_v472a2.exe

Download ASPI v4.72 directly from adaptec from the link above.

Unzip the contents to c:\adaptec

click on start, run.. type in "cmd"

navigate through the dos window and go to c:\adaptec

then type in the below command

install.bat XP32

it'll install the files, after you're done.. restart and you will now have the latest version of aspi installed.

Nemmeh: that's how I've been doing it on all the PCs - they all work except for this one.

I'll try Force ASPI and dump the current layer first and see what happens.

Budman: I'll give your drivers a shot too.

Thanks everyone!

At first I used ForceAspi 1.7 w/ the latest ASPI drivers BUT what I should have done was just use the 1999 ForceAspi included drivers for XP Pro - it worked!

I think this PC was the most stubborn to get an active ASPI layer working.

CDRWin and Audiocatalyst both work w/ ASPI functionality now.

Information seeking on aspi. What is it and why I need forceaspi.
Here is the problem: I just bought dual format nec 1300a dvd burner
and installed xcopy gold software. Tech support at xcopy emailed me
that xcopy is not wroking because- dvd has to be master on other
cable, no packet writing software installed, and have to update aspi layer.

I got the link to execucte forceaspi.exe. I cm concerned that this may
screw up normal working win2k. What is aspi layer.

First post to this goup. Thanks for any help and suggestion.
