Aspect ratios of 19"/20" monitors?

If you're talking about LCD panels, then yes, that sounds about right. Native resolution of most 19" LCDs is 1280x1024 (5:4), while the native resolution of many 20" LCDs is usually 1600x1200 (4:3)

Take the native resolution, and divide width by height.

1280/1024 = 5/4
1600/1200 = 4/3

This isn't that hard.

I wasn't sure what the native resolution of the screens were.

Is it true for all LCDs though? Are there any exceptions?

I haven't heard of any exceptions to the 19" LCD being 1280x1024. Of course there are also widescreen 20" LCD's with a 16:10 aspect ratio in addition to the 4:3 1600x1200 ones. 😉

It's easy enough to find if you have the model number of the monitor you're talking about.
