I just received a G.Skill 4GB DDR2-1000 Kit based upon a hot deal posted on Anand Tech.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231145

My motherboard is the Intel D975XBX2 (Bad Axe 2)

http://support.intel.com/suppo...ards/desktop/d975xbx2/

I am running an E6600 stock for video editing on the board which currently has four 1GB DDR2 667 modules from Super Talent. I left the timings at whatever the bios setup used.

Since this ram I just bought involves removng the four Super Talent sticks and putting two of these in their place how should I set the bios?

I think the board only takes DDR2-800 maximum, but can't I use these at 800 somehow?

Thanks for the help.

set the timings in the bios to 5-5-5-12 and the ram voltage to 2.1v (for now)
u need to give us some info on your cpu clock speeds (fsb? multiplier?) and available bios options.. i dunno much about intel mb's.

That's 5-5-5-15, LOUISSSSS. Shouldn't you already know that?:D

OK,

I feel stupid.

I forgot what I put in there.

It wasn't an E8600, it was an E6600. I corrected the OP.

E6600 @ 2.40 GHz

CPU-Z says core speed = 1600.1 MHz, Multiplier = 6.0, Bus Speed = 266.7
Memory is 5-5-5-15 @ 333.3 MHz according to CPU-Z....................Bios says two of the four are 5-5-5-13 and the other two are 5-5-5-15 despite the fact that they are both Super Talent DDR2 667 module sets (different chipsets - Samsung vs Super Talent).

So what should I do about the new memory. Bios has memory override feature if I need it.
Thanks for the help.

That chipset is going to have a hell of a time getting that RAM to it's actual speed of 500 MHz.

In fact, i'd bet you won't even be able to get it to that speed stably.

Things to remember: high tRFC is usually needed. 55+ if you can.
If there's no such option in the bios, you could try auto timings/SPD, which should set it looser by default.

You can certainly try a higher ratio to get closer to DDR2-1000.
Remember to set the voltage manually.

I ended up just putting them in and they defaulted to DDR2-800 at timings of 5-5-5-15. It seems faster than the DDR2-667 that I had in there so considering what I paid for it, I probably should leave well enough alone.

Thanks for the help n7. Much appreciated.
