Hi guys. winter is coming. I need a comforter and I don't really know much about it. I'm living in an old house that all the windows don't seal very well. so It gets real chilly here in my room in the winter (it often drops below -20 celcius outside). so I need a cheap (no fancy, yes very cheap :D) comforter that will keep me toasty warm. I have googled a bit about it and found there are comforters called "down comforter", hypodown comforter. which one is the best ? I'm also wanting one that the feathers inside will not pop out by itself and end up everywhere on the floor. hehe that's why I threw away the old one (that wasn't mine ). I used to live in hot climate city "no winter all year", so please give me your opinion also let me know if you know some sites where I can get it cheap. Thanks guys :D

Layers...

1. Cheap comforter
2. Microfiber blanket under that
3. Maybe another MF blanket if you're a real wuss.
4. Hot woman helps too...

I lived in a place where it got about 40 degrees colder than where you're at... We're talking frost on the outlets/light switches cold... worked fine for me.

if your windows don't seal well, you should definitely cover them with those clear plastic covers that seal around the edges. Our heating bill dropped from $980 to $800 as a result, and it was MUCH warmer inside.

1. Follow vshah's advice

2. In addition to a comforter, try an electric blanket; not just for the bed, but one on the couch to keep you extra warm while you're watching tv. Makes it *much* more comfortable, even if you turned the thermostat back quite a bit (saving a small fortune for some people.)

$900 a month?! WTF?! Is power always that expensive in USA? Our bill is ~$200/month with 4 people in the house! Wow.

Only takes one if you're layered up right. ;)

One blanket is a mistake. Layers layers layers.

Unless he is heating a mansion or two, I'm pretty sure he's talking about per year.

I wish, i live in pittsburgh, our house leaked air like crazy, and our house has radiators/an OLD OLD boiler. the thing probably eats gas like crazy. 980/800 was our bill for the month of january, in 2006/2007 respectively. the thermostat was set at 72. it's a 2 floor/6 bedroom house, about 3000 sqft

Even in the dead of winter or the extreme summer hear, mine is never over $200, let alone $900 a month...
