when you get to college and talk to other indians, they'll say the same stuff. last weekend i was talking with some friends about how for some reason, everyone's parents were #1 in their class. i don't get how every indian person was 'top of their class', haha. anyway, i always used to get really agressive when my parents tried to say that stuff to me, so they eventually stopped because they realized they weren't impressing me. from the impression i get, my parents were/are incredibly smart people, but the gap in the level of competition in their schools was much greater than the schools i went to. i mean, i heard endlessly about how when they had to write term exams, they had to write papers, and the papers they had to write were nothing like the papers i had to write. the papers they had to write were 25 to 30 pages on a good day. all that tells me is they learned how to bullshit at an early age.

I don't know any Asian parents that try to one up their kids. But what I do see alot is comparisons or little comments like "You know Marie's son is going to med school."
