Um, duh study. Every Asian kid knows this. And 90% of the time the bullying is done by black kids.

In my experience, it was the white kids and 'West Asians' (Pakistan/India/Sri Lanka) that tried the most shit.

East Asians are easy targets... First/second gens are taught to be nice and do good in school. Fighting back or standing up would be an absolute no-no - "OMFG, you got suspended for punching that mothereffer? Now you won't be a doctor or lawyer!".

School is like jail. If you don't wanna get butt rape, be in a group or know people. Growing up, going to schools in the ghetto, I was always in large groups with my friends. But I also know the ghetto kids in my classes, so it was cool.

Would being suspended in your Freshman or Sophmore year count on your record?

I thought it only count if it happened during Junior or senior year.

What about fat kids, I bet they are picked on a lot, or maybe they are the majority now. :hmm:

To many early-gen Asians, your ENTIRE school record, even your Grade 1 record is important. Whether college gives a shit or not, or if the real world gave a single shit about your grades once you left the school system for that matter, doesn't factor in. You do everything short of sucking dick to be an "A student", have a perfectly untarnished record, and learn to bullshit so that your parents are happy that you'll be able to get into any school you want. Social skills and being able to stand up for yourself doesn't matter...

They still get picked on by that last 10%.
One of the few instances when the majority cannot abuse the minority. Cuz they are physically incapable of doing so.

Well Social skills and standing up for yourself do matter.

I remember reading something that social skills are more important than a fancy degree for getting a job because it help to make connections, shows good emotional IQ and basically more of a people's person. Employers like that and they probably pick off your degree for an interview but social skills and competence is what is going to let you stay at your job.

Its not about being Asian, its about being smart. The dumb kids will always try to bully the smart kids... and blame it on the system/media/etc.

I just joined a gang and bullied the bullies while watching out for my geek friends. My childhood was strange.

A lot of Asian kids tend to be quiet and pretty passive. They're easy targets. Not too complicated.

At UT Austin, we occasionally got alerts from the campus police department about a recent robbery. I want to say that almost every single robbery victim during my 4 years was Asian.

For a year, the desktop background on the computers in the EE labs was a notice from campus PD telling Asian students to be extra careful at night because Asians were being targeted.

Found a random email from UT PD (there was a string of robberies within a short period of time when this was sent):
This third robbery also confirms a pattern in victims. All three armed robbery victims are Asian students (male and female).

Because in the countries their parents come from, that is literally all that matters. Even primary schools are selective, because they have standardized tests to get into secondary schools, and without being in the right primary school, you won't get into a good secondary school. And being in a bad secondary school practically guarantees that you won't get into university, and without a degree, nobody there will want to employ you, unless you have buckets of money already or you have connections and your parents can land you a cruisy government job. There are efforts to reform so that standardized test scores matter less and there's more focus on communication skills, personality, etc. but as Japan, Singapore, and Korea are finding out, reform is harder than it sounds. It's crazy that your commitment to study when you're 5 will determine your entire career, but that's the way it's working.
