Ashton Kutcher Reportedly Will Replace Charlie Sheen on 'Two and a Half Men'

Published May 12, 2011 | FoxNews.com

Ashton Kutcher appears to be taking the reins from Charlie Sheen on CBS’ hit show “Two and a Half Men,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The actor, who is married to actress Demi Moore and got his start in showbiz on “That 70’s Show,” reportedly is finishing up a deal to join the cast, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. A source says Kutcher is getting a “huge payday,” according to the paper.

The news comes just one day after Hugh Grant reportedly ended discussions about joining the show, citing creative differences. Other Hollywood stars like Rob Lowe, John Stamos and Jeremy Piven were also reportedly considered to assume the lead role.

Sheen was fired from “Men” in March after a series of booze-benders and tirades against CBS executives and Chuck Lorre, the show’s creator.

Still won't be the same. I'd be surprised if it is well received. They should just cut their losses and cancel it.

of all the actors listed, I think Ashton makes the least sense.

If he plays the same character he has done in every movie/show, its gonna ruin 2.5 men.

I think the show would be even funnier now with the newly rediscovered charlie sheen.

i think the only guy who could have pulled it was Jeremy Piven, and even then, it still wouldn't be the same. tAAHM was basically the charlie sheen show.

Yeh, he's a horrible fit. Stamos would work well. He's a sleezebag IRL and just a better natural fit for the role.

Who thought of this idea?

Ashton does chicks who are nearly double his age....

Charlie does chicks who are nearly half his age...

That alone should be a reason why this is a horrible casting move.

So Kutcher is going to play Jon Cryer's older brother?

Jeremy Piven would have been interesting, but either way this is just stupid.

How is it even 2 and half men anyway, the kid is grown up... In order to preserve the title, I say they need to replace Charlie with a child. :p

It would make more sense to kill off Sheen's character and bring in Kutcher as a different character.

Hmmm, random stab at it:

Charlie dies, Alan thinks he gets everything but it turns out Charlie has a bastard son he told no one about that he left everything to.

Moves in and continues Charlie's lifestyle?

From what I read this morning, this is the case. Chuck Lorre has supossedly already created the new character and come up with a creative way to dispose of Charlie.

But I agree it will not be the same and probably destined to fail.
But who knows with the recent success of terrible sequels, maybe the sheeple will enjoy Two and a half Men part duex.

I was thinking the same thing. This way they don't need to change the current layout of the show too much.

There's an idea. The "kid" turns into a womanizer, is willed Charlies house, and follows in his foot steps.
Drop a 7-8 year old off on the doorstep that is Charlies from a one nighter and you have your 2.5 men and Cryer is still the bitch.

This is a strange casting indeed. In addition to the writing, one of the things that made the show was the idea that Charlie was merely playing himself.

Not sure if it's as interesting with Ashton. To me he's always come across as an uninteresting dork.

If Ashton could act it would help a bit. Yes, I actually think Charlie Sheen is a better actor than Ashton Kutcher, not saying much obviously.

Hmm. I don't think it can really work, but there is an odd precedent :

Spin City, which did decently enough for many years, was Michael J Fox, until he was too ill to continue, and he was replaced by .....

Charlie Sheen.

That actually makes sense. I was worried it was gonna be Ashton Kutcher as Charlie Harper.

Not that I watch the show anymore or anything.
