Who's Ashley Simpson?

She played a Character on WB's 7th Heaven.

That means absolutely nothing to me.

she's the sister of Jessica Simpson, recent inductee into pop culture stardom. Jessica Simpson and her husband had a reality show on MTV, where she came off as a dumb blonde (with gi-mungous hooters) and became very popular. her sister is now riding on her coattails.

Good lord you guys are a bunch of dumb whiners. You're all just jealous because you want her money. If you think she has no talent then you are tone deaf. So she got a big break with her sister hitting it big first - are you saying that YOU wouldn't try to capitalize on that opportunity? Bull$shit. It's also extremely tiring hearing nerds and supposed music aficionados say it's bad music just because their tastes are different. Well waaaaaaaaaaaah.

If someone's willing to suck c0ck for $1million, they do it, and people complain about them, they're still a c0cksucker.

well who's bigger than her in soaring popularity right now ?

Stations are force-feeding us this stuff... of course it's going to get popular. They can force feed us anything catchy and it will sell.

Have you heard her sing live? That is the true test...the studio can work miracles.

That's not a valid argument to bring someone down. The most popular bands and solo artists can't sing or play in person. Avril Lavigne and Linkin Park come to mind. But they're both huge on the charts. You use that argument and there are really only a handful of "good" bands or singers. Does that mean that's who you can only like ?

Or the "buying" power of the company flogging the merchandise. In Australia it is always interesting to see some CD singles top the charts *before* they are released for sale.

No, and of course many popular bands cant sing or play in person, and I like to think that they aren't bands I like.

Fact is, she probably lacks true singing talent, so why are you defending her?

i'd say william hung is more undeserving because i haven't seen her talents. If she looks good, then she's already more deserving then hung

Oh please. If only people who "deserved" stuff actually got stuff, the world would collapse in ten years. Face it, these people wouldn't have money and be popular if SOMEONE wasn't willing to spend money on it. So the only way to make it so that only those who "deserve" it (by whose scale....yours?) got money, would be to limit people in the choices they can make. Me, I'd much rather have wankers like Ashlee Simpson making money than the alternative.

This is pretty true, linkin park can't sing at ALL live. (And I don't even hate their music).

obviously there's a large market for her music/image. just because you don't happen to enjoy the music or be in the demographic, doesn't make it stupid.

yes, it does.

so i've been downloading, er, borrowing this album. i listened to the first few songs and my impressions are that the production isn't quiet Matrix-slick but her singing is the strongest out of all these pop-princess-turned-rocker albums that have been put out recently. the vocals are the least processed i've heard on a pop album in a while now, which gives it a little more sincerity (although the emotion is still pretty fakey).
