yep, AFAIK she had an MTV show before she had really put out any big singles. Give anybody that much exposure, all you need is to slap an album together with some hired guns writing songs and Pro Tools and AutoTune to fix her voice, and it will sell to people with boatloads of parental guilt money and no taste.

The truly pitiful thing for this girl is that she can't lip sync anywhere any more, after wasting that privilege by getting caught spectacularly on a small stage that didn't really call for it. Now she's at a major halftime show where almost everybody lip-syncs for technical and scripting reasons, and she (claims) to have gone out without any monitors and attempted to sing. If true, a lot of singers would sound horrible under those conditions. All the anger and bitterness that millions of people have for the state of mainstream music is being focused on her. I guess she'll have to retire to Malibu at 22 or 23, tough life.
