I have been a user for Ashampoo Burning Studio since 3 years and love that it is not bloated like Nero and Roxio's Easy CD Creator, has easy to navigate menus for burning MP3, Audio, Data, DVD, VCD, BlueRay, and Images

It is not free (costs $40 USD or so) but it is an excellent program.

Now the reason I am creating this thread is I want to see for people who have used both ImgBurn and Burning Studio and get their impressions...

Why do all people recommend ImgBurn? It is very hard to use like when you want to create a simple Data Disc or MP3 Disc, I don't even know how you would create a DVD/VCD using ImgBurn. It isn't that user friendly...so why do people keep recommending ImgBurn when someone asks about burning software?

I use infrarecorder, and imgburn. They both work, and infrarecorder is both free, and libre. Personally, I'm not willing to pay money for increasingly obsolete technology. If came to paying $40 to burn an optical disc, and not using optical discs, I'd quit using them. I've pretty much quit anyway. The only thing I burn are mp3 data discs for my Jeep, and that isn't necessary. I have plenty of mp3 players.

Well Im like you, the last time I burned a DVD disc was 4 years ago. I only burn Audio/MP3 discs.

But tell me something, why do you use 2 programs, infrarecorder and imgburn?

I personally like to have one program that does it all.

That's why I use only ONE browser, Firefox FTW + IETAB

I highly respect your opinion so please fill me in maybe I'm missing something here

You're gonna like this :^D

I use infrarecorder because it's libre software, but the big feature is the window smokes when you're burning a disc :^D That wouldn't make up for lackluster performance, but it amuses me, and coupled with the fact that it's libre makes me enjoy it.

I use imgburn solely for burning .isos. Mostly because it's very straightforward, and I like the quirky quotes it has when the program starts. I guess I use it mainly for the quirky quotes :^D

Generally I agree with you. I think it's better to use one program than several for the same general thing. That doesn't always apply. I'm generally against security suites. My feeling is they probably do one thing best(say A/V), but fall a little short in other areas(say firewall). For something like a burner, it would be best to use one program. It just so happens the two I like provide silly, and not so silly features. For the resources they use, I can live with a little duplication :^)

Well if that smoke amuses you (I am like you too I like that), then Ashampoo Burning Studio will blow you away....

When you are burning a CD/DVD, you see a high quality 3d/ animated Disc being burned by a laser continously and smoke coming out of that laser sometimes until the disc burning operation is done

I've tried ABS 11 but it doesn't like my Samsung burner. It will not burn DVD-RWs and half the time makes DVD-R coasters. I use only TDK, Taiyo Yuden, or Verbatim blank DVDs.

Nero 11 micro works flawlessly. You can download the Lite or Micro version here:http://www.nsaneforums.com/topic/46345-nero-lite-v11011000-installer-version-18/

I've tired ImgBurn but found it not as feature rich as Nero 11 or ABS 11, but Imgburn is free.

Installed:
Nero Micro: 138MB
ABS 11: 288MB

Ashampoo is always giving away a version of their burning software, so you do not even need to pay for it if you do not need the latest greatest features. Personally, I do not care much for ImgBurn or CDBurnerXP.

ABS 11 doesn't like my LiteOn BR burner either. It just won't close out and finish any burns. Pretty crappy version, uninstalled immediately after even their tech support couldn't help me. All other burning programs run fine though with the burner.

My Samsung burner works fine with Nero, ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP, and ConvertXtoDVD, but does the same thing as your LiteOn burner with ABS 11. It will sit there forever trying to finish a burn, and most of the time fails file verification.

"I use infrarecorder, and imgburn."

+1. These are the 2 programs I use. For music CDs I usually use iTunes, since I use that to manage my 20GB music collection. iTunes is a bit bloated, but the music managament is worth it to me, and all the music porograms seem bloated these days. I uninstall the features of itunes to makie is less bloated.

True, it's very easy to burn ISOs with it. But should a need ever arise to burn a video CD or a simple data CD, then the hassle starts

For burning DVDs I usually use DVD shrink to make an ISO, then burn it with ImgBurn. MKV, MP4 and AVI files can be just burned directly to disk. So there's really no hassle, unless you are talking about the old-school low-quality Video CDs that can play in a DVD player.

It's been a while since I burned a video CD - I think a lot of people do what I do and stream everything nowadays. I use a WD Live player, and all my videos on windows Home server (using freeware Serviio as my main media server).

How do you like the WD live player?

I have both Imgburn and UltraISO installed on my computer. Never did try Ashampoo, but from the looks of the interface, it seems like a nice, easy to use program. It is offered from time to time on the website: giveawayoftheday.com .. only issue there is, it must installed same day it is offered and the key will not work for any future updates.

ImgBurn works and it is free. It is not always the most user-friendly program, agreed, but that is nothing a 3-second Google search can't fix.
