Hello,

I"ve been having trouble playing ASF files on my laptop. They never seem to play through properly. Most times, they play the video, but the sound is very distorted and crackled. It looks like it is a processor related thing sometimes, but on Pentium 133 desktops it works fine. I have a pentium 166 laptop with 80 mb ram. I have the latest windows media player for windows 95. I haven't upgraded to 98 because I'm afraid of losing too much RAM to it. However, if that is my problem, I will upgrade. But, there was a time when I had windows 98 on the computer and asf files did not work then either.

Is there something I can do to my computer to tweak it into working? The model of my computer is ACEr extensa 393C.

thank you for any help you can provide.

What kind of videochip do you have in that laptop? It might be what is holding you back. Also, try to download the latest codecs from Microsoft, that might help too.
