Asetek VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise S754/S939/S940

I have purchased an AMD Athlon x2 64 4400 CPU. The CPU cooler is the Asetek VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise S754/S939/S940.

I haven't put the system together yet, but I will this evening. Can anyone tell me if the Asetek VapoChill Micro Ultra Low Noise CPU cooler is any good?

Yeah it is good although I'd recommend following the install procedures for installing on DFI on ALL board - much more secure/better contact and so lower temps.

So far prelimary results have a basic 2.5ghz OC at 40C or less under load - this is with a Antec P180

IN several posts here last week, we proved through comparison of several reviews and coordinated use of information provided in two or more reviews that the AseTek VapoChill Micro has been hyped to the consumer public.

The Extreme PErformance version doesn't cool as well as the ThermalRight coolers, nor probably as good as the Scythe, Typhoon and other competitors.

Check Hartware.de's web-site for a recent review of heatpipe coolers that include the thermalRight SI-120 and XP-120 in comparison to the Asetek. We were able to validate Hartware's bench-test results by comparing them with results made at OverClockers.com and other review sites.

yes -- on these forums as well as from a few reviews that I have read the Vapo Chill is a good solid performer but when you sit down and read things closely it appears to have been hyped even worse than the Zalman9500,,,,,lol...did I really say that????

Anyways please post your impressions along with sytem specs and temperature readings....

Zalman 9500 rock steady at 27c idle...hehee

Zalman Guy!!

Jedi -- just curious. It has a low idle either because your home AC is set close to 70F or you're having a nice spell of weather (while it sweltered here today. We run the AC when the thermometer climbs above 78F to save energy bills. (Personally, I'd prefer 70F).

Under this regime of 27C idle and same room temps, what is your PRIME95 "Large FFT" Torture-TEst load temperature? I know you have an Extreme Edition P4 478-pin, although I was mistaken earlier saying that it was a 3.4 when you said it was a 3.2.

In Monterey the temps are a constant; we rarely see anything over 80....once in a blue moon...the average temps here are roughly......a low of approx 50 to a high of maybe if lucky...75.....mainly in the 60`s....

Also I ran Prime95 last night.......for 6 hrs.....with a high of approx 38 c......

I did a mild overclock 2 days ago and there was no discernable difference in the temps.....

I will be installing the XP120 in a day or 2 and doing the same tests with it...

11C degree difference. I was reading an article somewhere a few days ago, putting the Northwood processor (without your L3 cache) in the range of about 92 to 96W for the 3.2C and 3.4C respectively.

Have to check the TDP specs on your processor at Intel to get a better idea, but that makes the CNPS-9500 to have a thermal resistance value below 12 C/W. That's better than what they measured for the SI-120!! I had computed through review data that it would be worse, at about 0.158 C/W.

Copied for another post:

Well currently I think people are pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to good coolers of all different styles.

I would rate the following I think all which have been mentioned: (alphabetical order)

Asetek Vapochill Micro Low Noise
Artic Cooling Freezer 64 / Freezer 4
Big Typhoon
Scythe Ninja
Thermalright XP90/90C/120

Obviously some have slightly different performance but they are all within a similiar sort of range - or perhaps even better said - all very capable of cooling an overclocked CPU.

Of course, they also do have important differences such as weight and size which could be other factors to choose on.

However, ultimately, it just comes down to choosing a cooler that fits your sort of air cooling in your case - direction, speed, noise etc and more importantly cost!

For my most recent build for a family member I used the Asetek Vapochill and have got very good results (not overhyped as some have said/reported - just ensure a proper installation*). Temps with an overclocked 3500+ to 2.6ghz at 1.5V (which is pretty hot/high thermal output) posts temps in a P180 case are 43C load (prime95, large FFT, room 22C) or 46C absolute max with room about 25C.

Those temps are with the Asetek on about 2/3ds power so prob around 8V.

*(I recommend the DFI installation method for all motherboards + ensuring thermal paste is covering the whole base + the base is absolutely centrally placed and thus completely covering the CPU)

I'd recommend the Scythe Katana instead of the Arctic Cooling Freezer series. The Katana is universal, fitting sockets 370/462/478/754/775/939/940 with the included hardware. The design looks similar to the Freezer series, but uses a standard 92mm fan held on with wire clips a-la Thermalright. The Freezer uses a proprietary fan. Cost is about $1 more than a Freezer at SVC.com. Cost includes a standard fan, or you can spec your own. I don't know about the Freezer, but the Katana can be mounted in 2 different directions with socket 370/462 and 4 different directions with all other sockets.

I ordered one yesterday from SVC.com and plan to use it with a socket 754 setup.

Hello - Can you give a link to this DFI method?. I can't seem to find it in the messages
Thanks
