I have two computers. I want to synchronize my contacts from my WM6 phone to my computer here. Windows Sync Center decides to delete all the contacts on my phone.

Thanks Microsoft! Now I have to talk my sister through rebooting and figuring out the IP of my obviously BSOD'd computer back home with my only other copy of my contacts. This sucks.

AGH! RDP'd into my other computer, and since I haven't used Outlook since installing Office 2007, the contacts are gone there too!

WHAT THE FUCK

Jesus Christ, now I have to sit here, try and mount an Acronis backup from 70 miles away, and do a search for any PST files.

.........I want an iPhone

Neither Windows Mobile or Outlook are at fault here... it's Active Sync / Windows Sync, which TOTALLY SUCK.

While I agree that ActiveSync/Windows Sync blows, the real question is why don't you have any backups?

A Google search for "ActiveSync deleted contacts" yields equally frustrating results.

I just had an epiphany and remembered that I was syncing my contacts to yet a THIRD computer, MY LAPTOP! *runs to find laptop*

Fuck ActiveSync/Windows Sync

WOOT! Laptop has a handy PST file that's got 150+ contacts in it. Plus the missing few I found on an Outlook Express .WAB from my roommate's phone, and the few contacts that Sync DIDN'T vaporize, I think I've got everything.

If you've got Vista then just grab a previous version of the file you need.

I hate all of Office 2007.
But look, there are big shiny buttons everywhere!!! Pretty!!!

Well, I haven't used Access or Outlook, but I've never liked Outlook anyway, and I have no reason to assume that Access is any better.

what does that even mean?

Certain versions of Vista (ultimate+business?) have shadow copies. Very useful.

it's a crapshoot and I fear the same will happen to me one day. So far though the worst that has happened is it duplicates every entry instead. Joy.

iTunes will do the same thing if you are not careful. :(

Turns out I had everything that was deleted on my laptop's Outlook 2007 PST; it only deleted the contacts that existed from that sync, so I still had everything from October-Now on my phone. Needless to say, the PST on this computer is copied onto every single drive in this computer, so Outlook or Sync can't trash it.
