asbestos removal

got some floor tiles throughout the basement... asbestos? probably.

anyone have removal experience can advise how much caution should be placed if we want to remove these tiles?

should the basement walls and ceiling be covered in plastic?

actually it's partially finished, the walls and ceiling... so sheetrock would cover it in the future...

should we still cover them then so no airborne asbestos gets spread around?

Friable(Dusty) asbestos is the dangerous type. Tiles are basically encapsulated. Should not be a problem unless you grind them off. At least in NY, you can dispose of them from home in the regular garbage. Not recommending that, however.

here, you have to double bag it.

basically you should pound them with a hammer until they get all smashed up, then inhale the dust through a straw. your body will absorb it and you will be rid of those nasty tiles.

If it's a level, smooth and flat surface, just lay whatever flooring over it.

it's not that particularly level, though the tiles are in fine condition....

looks like ripping them off the floor would involve a lot of prying

but it only covers about 1/3 of the basement...

i really don't know if it's asbestos in there or not....
